  • Mr. Hayes goes to Washington

Yes, it's official: the Wichita State University Department of Political Science has given me one of four Washington, DC internships for the Spring 2008 semester. One of four, of roughly a dozen people who applied. I did it! Well, half of it. The remaining challenge will be finding a program in Washington to accept me. Professor Kahn, who's in charge of the school program, says he will be getting into contact with some folks he knows in Washington; I've already got applications in to several places. An encouraging sign is that no one who's ever been accepted into the PoliSci Dept's program has ever failed to find a position in Washington.

Prof. Kahn suggests I find an internship that would involve research and writing. I really shouldn't brag (but ye gods, this is a day for it!), but he said the writing sample I submitted (my big formal research paper from last spring) was among the very top he's seen in 15 years of doing this, in addition to possibly being the best-documented undergraduate research paper he's ever seen; he also got word from a previous PoliSci professor that he highly recommended my writing skills.

Oh My God, people. I'm going to Washington. I'm going to work there for four months. Back in the summer, when I first started looking into the internship program, I didn't think I had much of a chance. My GPA was too low; my extracurricular activities were virtually nonexistant. I wasn't involved in any campus organizations (although I am trying to start a campus Libertarian org). There were so many other student applicants who were driven, successful, and ambitious, whose academic records made mine look poor in comparison.

But I made it. I made it!

Mama, daddy, this one's for you.

  • good for you!!!! have a great time!
  • Hello Shaidar,
You worked hard to make your site so simple yet elegant. I see that you are a student. I’m glad that’s all over with for me!
I like to write articles about God and religion on my site. I want to help people to really get to know God, especially in these troubled times. Jesus gave us a message of hope that is in the Bible: 14 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." (Matthew 24:14) (ESV) I hope you get a chance to look at them.

  • oh, nomizo, nomizo.
worship, veneration, belief... the greeks had it right when they threw it all into one word. :)
  • That's why I like Latin. Latria vs. Dulia vs. Hyperdulia. Nobody splits hairs and makes theology into a Byzantine proposition like us Catholics!

    (Pun intended. :P)

Of course, I'm trying to avoid actually taking Latin.

Hey, how are you, anyway? *hugs*
